The Cornerstone, Misplaced

Our church has lost our Cornerstone

But I think we’ll be okay.

There are lots of Bible lessons

To give us plenty of direction

So I am sure we’ll keep our way.

Our church has lost our Cornerstone

But we know how to stay alive:

Evangelism - always more.

Feed the widows. Take in the poor.

I’m beginning to think we’ll thrive.

Our church has lost our Cornerstone

The builder said that really can’t be good.

But we won’t lose sight of the mission,

Religion is simply tradition.

And we’re so needed in our neighborhood.

Our church has lost our Cornerstone

The kids said they saw cracks in the wall.

Their teachers said it’s fine,

That this stuff happens all the time

And assured us the building won’t fall.

Our church has lost our Cornerstone

So we gave extra money to the leaders.

The building started to rumble.

And even I can’t help but stumble.

So now I’m afraid they might be cheaters.

Our church has lost our Cornerstone

I feel like I’m out of my mind.

They’ve lost what I came seeking

And no one notices the foundation leaking.

This seems like a waste of my time.

Our church has lost our Cornerstone

But it was the Cornerstone I wanted to know.

This preacher keeps insisting

That through him we’ll keep existing

But it was in Christ that I wanted to grow.

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. (Ephesians 2:19-21)
